When the Empress Theatre first opened in 1912, the original mandate as reported in the Vallejo Times was for “the theatre to never close,” i.e. scheduled performances a full 365 days a year. Additionally, the slogan for the Empress Theatre appearing in all newspaper advertising of the day was, “The Empress Theatre. Where Everybody Goes.”
